Responsibilities of ICS Parents as Partners

2017-2018

Gateway Parenting Course
Parents have one semester from the date of enrollment to complete an approved, values-based Christian parenting course (PK-5th) or book with questions (6th-12th). Contact our Family Education
Department for details.

Family Education Units
Every family must achieve a minimum of five (5) Family Education Units (FEUs) per year to continue enrollment in International Community School. Any workshop, conference or class that enriches your marriage, parenting or home schooling may qualify and must be approved by the Family Education Department. One hour of instruction equals one FEU.

Principles of Community
You have one semester from the date of enrollment to complete this one-hour workshop. You’ll earn one FEU while you learn the principles that form our identity as a Christian Community School. Must
be repeated every third year. Parent Participation All parents of children enrolled in the academic program are required to participate on campus on a regular basis. You will be on a rotational schedule with other parents in your grade level and will be given the opportunity to serve in the classroom, the lunchroom and/or the administrative offices. Parents serve an average of 2-3 times per semester.

Parent Partner Workshop
This required workshop gives you the tools you need to succeed as a partner in your child’s education at International Community School. Community Meetings Scheduled mandatory community meetings are an important gathering of all staff, faculty and parents. A corporate session offers a time of worship and updates on school information, and breakout sessions keep you in touch with your teacher and other class parents. Check school calendar for dates.

Textbooks
Parents are responsible for the purchase of all textbooks for their child’s education. You will be provided with a specific Textbook List for the grade in which your child is enrolled. Home Instruction Days
The success of your children at International Community School depends on your commitment to their education on the days they are not on campus. You are responsible for teaching and supervising all
work on home instruction days as required by your teacher’s lesson plans. Parent Orientation Held just prior to classes beginning, Parent Orientation is the time to meet faculty and staff and get vital information for your student’s success at ICS.

Financial Responsibility
All parents are required to sign a Financial Agreement for each school year. An appeal process is available for families with difficult financial situations.
